You know you had a Catholic upbringing when somebody says “May the force be with you” and your instant reaction is to reply with “And also with you”.

Lift up your lightsabers.

We lift them up to the lord.

Let us give thanks to the Force our guide.

It is right to give the Force thanks and praise.

PREACH

Why can’t all Christians be as good as this amazing person?

Why can’t all people be as good as this amazing person in general?

All the fucking awards

This  is  amazing.  I  just  wish  there  was  no  cissexism.

I love InnerChrist.  So much.

You know how in Star Wars they say “May the Force be with you”

Does anyone else automatically think/say ”And also with you” ?

Yes definitely a catholic thing :)

except now it’d be “And with your Spirit”

I’m Catholic and here’s what I believe…

randomestduckeva:

ambotherambo:

  • In God/Jesus (makes sense right?)
  • The separation of church and state (Not everyone is Christian!)
  • I’m pro- choice. And by the by, being pro-choice doesn’t automatically mean I’m pro-abortion.
  • I believe a woman should have the right to do what she wants with her body.
  • Until a man can become pregnant, he really shouldn’t have much say in the birth control discussion.
  • I believe women should have more prominent roles in my church.
  • I’m straight, religious, and I support gay marriage because I support civil (HUMAN) rights. This should not be a religious issue.
  • Any union of LGBT couples does not weaken my heterosexual relationships in any shape or form. If you believe it does, then your relationship wasn’t very sturdy to begin with, now was it?!
  • While I would do everything in my power to not get a divorce, I believe that sometimes love doesn’t last and people should not be forced to stay in situations that make them unhappy.
  • I don’t personally think the Bible should be taken literally because taking it literally means we understand it completely. But I would oh so enjoy meeting someone that thinks they understand it completely.
  • Religious conviction is a personal choice, not to be flaunted or be made to alienate people. And it’s okay to NOT have one at all or be in conflict with my own.

No religion is perfect because at its core, it’s run by people.  And people can be awful and misinterpret a great many things.  But I just wanted to let you know that it is possible to be religious and have these thoughts.

And I’ll probably get it, but if anyone tries to tell me that any of the above beliefs makes me any less Catholic, I’ll just have to demand that you go back to your cave of ignorance. We’re taught to love everyone, right? Who am I to judge?!

This. Just pretty much all of this.

"Love between two persons, whether of the same sex or of a different sex, is to be treasured and respected. “Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.” we read (Jn 11:5). When two persons love, they experience in a limited manner in this world what will be their unending delight when one with God in the next. To love another is in fact to reach out to God, who shares his lovableness with the one we love. To be loved is to receive a sign or share of God’s unconditional love. To love another, whether of the same sex or of a different sex, is to have entered the area of the richest human experience."

[Cardinal George Basil Hume, Note on Church Teaching Concerning Homosexual People 1995]

I think it’s cool seeing quotes like this from Cardinals in the Catholic Church (and this was back in 1995!)

My favorite kind of straight Christian. Please, all of you, come out and say so. I know there are plenty of you out there.

As a queer Catholic, I LOVE THIS!

ourpresidents:

On November 8, 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected president in one of the closest elections in U.S. history.  In the popular vote, his margin over Republican candidate Richard Nixon was 118,550 out of a total of nearly 69 million votes cast.  His success in many urban and industrial states gave him a clear majority of 303 to 219 in the electoral vote.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the youngest man ever elected president, the only Catholic, and the first president born in the twentieth century.

[5 panel comic. In the first 4 panels there is a pastor talking to a little child. Panel 1: Kid: “Wait, Eve was made from Adam’s rib?”, Pastor: “Yep.”; Panel 2: Kid: “So, they had the same DNA?”, Pastor: “Uhh…”; Panel 3: Kid: “Wich means they have the same sex chromosomes.”, Pastor: “I don’t-“; Panel 4: Kid: “So you’re telling me Adam and Eve were gay twins?! We’re all descended from two brothers doing it? That’s a sick story, father! Sick, sick, sick!”; Panel 5, the pastor is sitting alone at a bar with a bottle and a drink. The top of the panel says: “Later…”, the pastor thinks: “Why is it always the children?”]

been scribbling common words and grammatical tips in the back of my dictionary. but it’s hard to study for this thing because it’s covering 600 lines. but this shouldn’t be a problem because, hello, I should know the grammar and shit. but my brain is like 80% latin so greek isn’t as easy for me and godddddd.

also I took a break and decided to read old gmail threads between me and megan from last year and I saw this:

“also I feel like a skeez because I’m waiting for catholic club to start and I am downloading a movie solely because there is a sex scene with christian bale and ewan mcgregor”

THE BEST CATHOLIC

speaking of, catholic community here has been like all pro-life all the time lately and I’ve been avoiding them like the plague because. well, I’m legitimately busy but I’m also such a hippie liberal commie it’s ridic and I know that if I get too close I will argue with them and let’s be real, they’re not going to listen and they’re going to try to explain how being pro-life is feminist and we will just go around in circles and I will just end up angry and upset at them and the fact that I could have been doing something more productive. blargh.

ok I should go back to furiously scribbling bits of translation in my dictionary studying. WOOOO.

That’s a really accurate description of them. Part of me is glad I really  only hung out with them for a year. I’d probably go crazy otherwise.

like. at times I do miss going to hofstra masses and just chilling with them occasionally, but every email and facebook thing I see is “YAY PRO-LIFE WE LOVE LIFE WE HAVE A PRO-LIFE TABLE IN THE ATRIUM AND THE SISTERS OF LIFE ARE HERE AND WE ARE GOING TO SAY A ROSARY FOR LIFE” and I am not going to pretend I agree with them and I am not going to waste my time trying to explain to them my position. like, I’m sure they’ll listen to me, but I know they won’t be swayed. :/

I don’t remember them being as prolife as they are now. It’s increased each year. - and the scary part is most of it’s student led. Sorry Nicole, you’re stuck.

Did I ever tell you the time I decided to go with them and stand outside Planned Parenthood? Made the mistake of mentioning it to my adviser and he kinda looked at me like I had three heads.

I’ve also gotten into arguments with Father Brian because I’m a democrat and yeah…

yeah, they’ve really gone off the deep end. I mean. I think it’s pro-life month or something anyway but it’s really unnerving.

yes you did lol. secretly praying for the gynos for having to put up with people protesting at them, right? I think we were texting back and forth when you were there.

ugh father brian is the worst. after that shit he pulled at holy hour/dodgeball I just can’t help but loathe him.

You’re right. My heart wasn’t really into it. I was there for the experience. Won’t go back.

I’m not going to forget that night. What he said about Elton John’s family and how he generalized and didn’t apologize. Not going to forget it.
